Fuel surcharges have been with us for many months as the cost of diesel and gasoline has fluctuated. Currently, it appears that the cost of diesel fuel is dropping. What about the surcharge?
We did some research and this is what we found. The base line for assessing the surcharge is
$1.15 per gallon of diesel. This is
determined, not by local charges, but by the national average determined by the
DOE. The current national charge is
$1.24 per gallon. If prices continue to
drop as they have been recently, once the rate gets to $1.15 or less, the
surcharge will be eliminated.
